Chapter 1 – Signs of the End (Part 1)
For generations, believers have searched the Scriptures to understand the signs pointing to the return of the Lord. While speculation and fear often surround discussions about the endtime, the Bible itself provides clear markers that help us discern the season we are living in. These signs are not meant to create panic, but awareness. They invite reflection, readiness, and a deeper examination of our faith. The first five signs have already unfolded before our eyes, quietly but powerfully, confirming that God’s Word is unfolding exactly as He declared. This series explores the first five signs of the endtime as revealed in Scripture.
Conversations about the endtime can feel confusing or overwhelming. Yet, Scripture does not leave us without guidance. The Bible gives clear signs that point toward the return of the Lord, not to stir fear, but to awaken awareness and readiness. When we step back and look carefully, the first five signs stand out with remarkable clarity.
Israel Becoming a Nation
The first great sign was the rebirth of Israel as a nation. Scripture makes it clear that Israel must exist before the Lord returns, because His physical return is connected to the salvation of the Jewish people. For nearly two thousand years, Israel did not exist as a nation. Then, in 1948, against all odds and by clear divine intervention, Israel was restored.
At that time, three major world powers—Great Britain, Russia, and the United States—agreed to recognize and support the formation of the nation. Almost immediately, Israel was attacked by surrounding nations intent on destroying her. Yet, she survived and flourished. This was not political coincidence. It was God’s doing. No power on earth can undo what God establishes. This was the first unmistakable sign of the Lord’s second coming.
Jerusalem Restored to Israel
The second sign was the return of Jerusalem into Jewish hands. For the end to come, Jerusalem must belong to Israel. This sign was fulfilled in 1967. As enemy forces gathered to attack, Israel struck first and captured key territories, including East Jerusalem. After nearly nineteen hundred years, Jerusalem was once again part of Israel. At that time, many believers felt the nearness of the Lord’s return. Yet, this was only the second of several signs still to unfold.
The Falling Away
The third sign is what Scripture calls the falling away. The Apostle Paul warned that before the Lord’s return, many would turn away from the faith. This falling away is not simply disbelief, but a departure from truth among those who claim faith.
As the end draws closer, this separation becomes more visible. God is allowing the difference between what is genuine and what is false to be exposed. This is the separation of wheat from tares, where true faith is revealed by endurance and sincerity.
Difficult Times
The fourth sign is the rise of difficult and grievous times. Paul described a world filled with selfishness, greed, pride, rebellion, and a hollow form of godliness without real power. Today, these conditions are plainly visible. Violence, corruption, and moral decay have become common, even celebrated. Many openly reject the Lord while boasting in what Scripture calls evil. This sign is not subtle. It surrounds us daily and confirms the accuracy of God’s word.
The Removal of Restraint
The fifth sign is the removal of the restraining One. For centuries, evil has been held in check by the Spirit of God. Though evil has always existed, it was limited. As the end approaches, this restraint is being withdrawn, allowing lawlessness to advance more freely. The result is a world where evil grows unchecked and hearts are tested. Only those who are grounded in truth and goodness will stand firm. The widespread crime, violence, and moral collapse we see today are clear evidence of restraint being lifted.
A Call to Discernment
These signs are not meant to cause panic. They are meant to bring clarity. Scripture shows us that God is unfolding history according to His purpose, and nothing is happening by accident. The signs remind us to stay awake, grounded, and faithful. The question is no longer whether these signs are real. They are already here. The question is whether we are paying attention, and whether we are living ready for what is to come.
My Reflection
These signs are not distant theories or future possibilities. They are already unfolding in our time. Scripture shows us that God is not silent about what is coming, and He has given us insight so we are not caught unaware. The purpose of understanding the signs is not fear, but discernment. It is a call to examine our hearts, strengthen our faith, and remain anchored in truth. As the world grows darker, the clarity of God’s Word shines even brighter. The question is not whether these signs are real. The question is whether we are paying attention.
